It is with deepest sympathy that I announce the passing
of my stepfather, our founder and CEO, Ned V Mannai on November 24th 2007. He
passed away surrounded by his loving family. Ned was born on April 20, 1932 and
was 75. Born and raised in Quincy, Ned was a graduate of Quincy High School. He
was a proud member of the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict
serving on the USS destroyer Newman K. Perry.
He started his
insurance career in 1955 with Hartford Insurance and then C.N.A. where he
successfully managed and grew several branch offices along the east coast. He
was the founder and CEO of XS Brokers Insurance Agency in Quincy which he
started in 1978. He was also the founding member of the New England Surplus
Lines Association (NESLA).
Ned was a loving husband, father and friend.
For those who had the good fortune of meeting him, he had the unending ability
to patiently listen to people. He deeply cared about everyone he met, and he
had a larger than life personality. An avid golfer, Ned enjoyed playing courses
on Cape Cod and in Scottsdale, Arizona where he maintained vacation homes. Ned
was also a skilled woodcarver whose decorative pieces are prized by many of his
friends and family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret
(Walsh) Mannai. He also leaves five children: Frederick Mannai of Quincy, David
Mannai of Harrisburg, PA, Kathleen Reilly of Fall River, Michael Mannai of
Carlyle, PA, Paula Reardon of Quincy and his stepson, Adam Devine, of Hingham.
Ned was the brother of Italo Mannai of Pembroke and the late Anthony Mannai and
Renato Mannai. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren.
